Also, a big part of their target group are those photographers with wide gamut monitors, and they can basically not use chrome or see the photos in wrong colors. There is a thread over in their forum where they say that they strip the metadata on purpose - given that any photographer should properly deal with color profiles, and that this is basically the reason these profiles were invented for, this is simply wrong. In my eyes this is not only a huge problem of Chrome which should be fixed asap, but also of 1x. There are already some open tickets for chrome, one for example with a good explanation: Sadly this means that most photographers, that use a "better", calibrated monitor, will see different colors when using chrome as a browser. With a standard monitor, very close to sRGB the difference is not noticeable (for example also with smartphones).

Thus, if you have for example a wide gamut monitor, the more as the color space differs from sRGB, the colors are different. Firefox and Safari do this without problems, so the image looks fine.Ĭhrome however, uses the monitor profile. What the browser should do now is use the sRGB profile, in case no profile is found. I did some tests and research in the meantime, it is as written in the previous post:ġx strips the complete metadata, also color profile (which is in my opinion simply wrong) - it is assumed that photos are converted to sRGB anyway.

When I sent the links around I noticed that not everybody could see this difference, and I have absolutely no clue why. Well the photo is saved in sRGB but I still do get this difference.

This is in my opinion wrong, but they state it's alright because you should save in sRGB anyway. The difference between the two images is that 1x strips all Metadata. If I open these two images in Firefox, they look exactly the same: I've got a problem that I came across last year already but neglected.
